“Breaking New Ground” is a recital of piano music that in some way pushed boundaries when it was written. Fred chooses from works whose innovations are well-known such as Schoenberg’s early forays into atonal music, little-known works such as Mozart’s compositions for mechanical instruments, and music that pushed societal limits, such as works by Clara Schumann who was one of the first woman composer-performers to gain prominence.
The program also includes contemporary ground-breaking pieces, such as works written for Fred by the brilliant jazz pianist and composer Donal Fox. Finally the recital features Fred’s own innovations, such as the MoyerCam, a video projection system that allows the audience to see the pianist’s hands from virtually any seat.
