Year-end 2022

December 30, 2023:

In 2022, I played over 200 concerts in 16 states. Mostly recitals, but quite a few with great jazz musicians throughout the US.

I’ve been enjoying playing my “Classical~Jazz” concerts which start with piano solo classical works, and then move to jazz trio with bassist and drummer. I love finding the connections between these genres and affirming those aspects common to all music. In October I played two concerts a week apart for Ogunquit Performing Arts in Ogunquit, ME. The first was a classical recital (works of Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann and Rachmaninoff) and the seconds was with Evan Palmer, bass and Bob Savine, drums where we played transcriptions of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal and Chick Corea, as well as my own arrangements — even some Arabic music. So my musical life is eclectic and very satisfying.

In January, I play a 40-concert tour of the east coast from New Hampshire to the Florida Keys — some are solo classical recitals, the others are jazz concerts with bassist Lowell Ringel and drummer Bob Savine.

Besides this, I am feverishly coding new music analysis software. It’s hard to keep all of these activities straight. None of it possible without the constant support of my dear April. We celebrated 30 years of marriage in October.

All the best for a great 2023!
Fred
