8/26/2020 Video-Concerts Attack Coronavirus!

Since mid-March, over 100 of Moyer’s concerts have been cancelled. However, since then, he has performed 68 “video-concerts,” private concerts performed in his home studio, each played specifically for a different organization. This has opened up a whole new set of possibilities for presenting piano recitals. Moyer’s USolo software has allowed him to perform synced with recorded accompaniments, so that he can play piano concertos with orchestra, jazz with bass and drums, and Arabic music with oudist Iyad Staiti (recorded during Moyer’s recent visit to Palestine.) Moyer is experimenting with multiple cameras automated with zooms, pans, etc. to follow the music and therefore to enhance the experience. The Video-Concerts incorporate his MoyerCam which projects the hands on the underside of the lid of the piano, as well as images of the composers, close-ups of manuscripts, even videos. Says Moyer, “While video-concerts are no substitute for live concerts, there are lots of positive aspects. I play a just-tuned Steinway concert grand that has been lavished with great attention over many years including the installation of the Stanwood Precision Touch Design which allows for an even tone one note to the next, wonderful microphones, 4K cameras, visual angles and close-ups not possible to an audience-member at a live concert.” With concerts still mostly canceled until the end of the year, Moyer will be doing many more Video-Concerts in the near future.
